Built to last
Building upon our very successful TT-3 turntable, we’ve basically kept everything that makes that turntable great, and amped everything else up to the next level. As a result, in TT-4, you get a thicker, sturdier plinth, a heavier platter and improved decoupling feet. All this works in tandem to provide a better foundation for your records; meaning you get lower distortion caused by vibrations and a more clear, natural sound.
Carbon fiber and custom components
A tonearm needs to be both very lightweight, but also extremely rigid at the same time. Since carbon fiber scores high in both categories, it is pretty much a perfect material for tonearms, and we have therefore decided to use this for the first time in an Argon Audio turntable. To make the upgrade complete, we’ve also fitted an even better pick up from Danish Ortofon at the end of the arm. The 2M Red has long been the MM-pickup to beat at its price point, and we think it sounds fantastic on our TT-4 as well.
TT-4 comes with a built-in phono amplifier (MM) of very high quality. This means that TT-4 can be used with all amplifiers and active speakers directly – no external phono amplification needed. We’ve even custom designed the built-in amplification to sound way better than anything available at this price point, using high-quality components only. And don’t worry: when the phono amplifier is turned off, it has no effect on the signal path.
ATS – Anisotropic Torsion Stabilizer
Hey – don’t leave! This ATS stuff sounds technical, but we promise it makes sense. In making the new carbon fiber tonearm, we found that there were some nasty internal resonances and distortions of the arm going on that negatively impacted the performance of the stylus when tracking the groove. The good news is that we have solved it! Basically, the trick is this: we make a very small, precise aperture along the underside of the tonearm. This cut does not affect the weight or stiffness of the arm, but it eliminates resonances caused by torsion (bending/curving), which would normally cause unwanted noise and distortion that would travel all the way out into your speakers. The result: you get the clearest, cleanest sound you have ever heard from a turntable in this price range.
